The Guardian Building is one of Detroit’s most photographed architectural treasures, and we are honored that so many visitors, photographers, couples, families, students, and creatives choose our historic spaces as the backdrop for their memories and artistic work.

We welcome photography inside the building and are pleased to offer access during public visiting hours for casual portrait and architectural photography. To help preserve the experience for all guests, tenants, and visitors, we kindly ask that all photographers follow the guidelines below.

Whether you are capturing engagement photos, family portraits, graduation memories, creative projects, or simply the beauty of the building itself, we look forward to being part of your experience.

Photography Guidelines

If you will be visiting during public visiting hours (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM daily), there is no charge. Please check our events calendar to be sure there is not a private event schedule. If so, it is possible that you may not enter the promenade or even the main lobby, at times. The elevators are not public access for photography.

The following guidelines apply:

• Group size must be 8 people or fewer
• Please be courteous of other visitors and tenants in the space
• No clothing changes permitted
• Do not block any entryways or exit pathways
• No umbrella flash photography
• No additional equipment such as backdrops, lighting panels, or stands
• Security will not permit entry with equipment beyond a camera
• Videography is not permitted during public hours
• No photography near the Bank of America area
• The photographer must sign a Waiver of Indemnity at the security desk in the main lobby.

Private Photography Reservations

For those seeking a more private experience, after-hours photography reservations are available after 6:00 PM at a rate of $150 per half hour, for up to two hours.
